The BA in Art is an open enrollment program, and can be declared at any time.
Requirements
In order to declare the BA (Bachelor of Arts) in Art, you must:
- Be an admitted BYU student
- Research the emphases (see our Degree programs page for more information)
- Declare your BA Major and emphasis by submitting a Major Change request in MyMap
BFA: ART APPLICATION
Deadline
Every November 30th and March 30th
Requirements
In order to apply for the BFA (Bachelor of Fine Arts) in Art, you must:
- Be a declared BA in Art (any emphasis) or admitted BA in K-12 Art Education
- Complete the following courses:
- ART 210 – New Genre & Interdisciplinary Projects
- ART 215 – Painting Fundamentals
- ART 216 – Ceramics Fundamentals
- ART 217 – Sculpture Fundamentals
- ART 220 – Intro to Drawing & Figure Drawing
- ART 225 – Printmaking Fundamentals
- ART 260 – Photography Fundamentals
- ART 320 – 20th Century Art and Theory
Application
The application includes:
- Identifying information
- Academic standing questionnaire
- Name of Faculty Advisor of choice
- Letter of Intent
- MyMap Progress report
- Headshot or recent photo of self
- Portfolio containing 15-20 works of art, indicating a strong personal voice
BA : K-12 ART EDUCATION APPLICATION
Deadline
Application is completed as part of the coursework in ARTED 276
Requirements
In order to apply for the BA (Bachelor of Arts) in K–12 Art Education, you must:
- Be an admitted BYU student
- Declare yourself a BA in Art or an Art Education Pre-major by submitting a Major Change request in MyMap
- Take the following courses, preferably in a single semester:
- ART 102 – Intro to Art: 2D
- ART 133 – Intro to Art : 3D
- ART 226 – Approaches to Artmaking
- Complete a FBI Fingerprint and background clearance, and complete:
- ARTED 276 - Intro to K-12 Art and Design Education
MA + MFA Graduate Programs
